A high school for our community!
In June 2018 a group of local parents and grandparents concerned about our children's secondary education formed the Bungendore High School Action Group. Thanks to everyone who got behind our efforts to advocate for a public high school for our community by 2022! YOUR support was instrumental in getting a 2018 bi-partisan commitment to build a Bungendore High School. On 14 August 2020, our local State Member John Barilaro and NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell announced a site for a new high school as part of an educational precinct for Bungendore, which includes the existing primary school. The timeframe committed to for the first intake of students is semester 1 2023. On 25 January 2023, the State Significant Development Application was approved. On 31 January 2023, the first intake of students will start their schooling in Bungendore in a temporary facility until the permanent school is built.
Why does Bungendore need a high school?
Bungendore has seen significant population growth in recent years. There are now almost 1,000 students in the primary schools in the wider Bungendore region.
We now have a population large enough to support a local high school and with recent changes to ACT Government enrolment policy, the time is right for a high school for our local community.
New look high school design as finalised for State Significant Development Application (Oct 2022) and subsequently approved (Jan 2023).
