The Concept - Bungendore High School

Oct 2022 - New look design finalised for State Significant Development Application and approved as at 25 Jan 2023.

Thanks to everyone who got behind our efforts to advocate for a high for our community by 2022! YOUR support was instrumental in getting a 2018 bi-partisan commitment to build a Bungendore High School. On 14 August 2020, our local State Member John Barilaro and NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell announced an educational precinct for Bungendore including a new high school beside the existing primary school. The high school will be located on the eastern side of the Mick Sherd Oval on Majara Street, and will include refurbishing Council offices and sharing use of the oval with the community.

The timeframe committed to for the first intake of students is semester 1 2023. The proposed concept plan includes not only a new high school but also upgrades to the primary school, including improving the oval and adding new lighting and an amenities block, as well creating more teaching spaces. There will also be new shared community facilities, such as a performance hall/sports gym and ball courts. The proposal will also see plans brought forward to build a new heated 25-metre outdoor pool. This pool will be covered, have eight lanes and be part of the new sports hub. The proposed aged care Abbeyfield  facility will also move to a larger north-facing site at 2 Majara Street.

In June 2022, revised changes were made in response to submissions to the State Significant Development Application process. These changes include a new community hub as part of Council's new offices on the corner of Gibraltar and Ellendon Streets. This hub will include a Council customer counter and the new community centre and library, originally proposed as part of the new school precinct. The image below shows an overview of the revised design. For more information, see June 2022 revised design.

There have been subsequent minor updates to the design will includes changes to increase parking. On 25 January, the State Significant Development Application was approved. On 31 January 2023, the first cohort of year 7 and 8 local students will start their high schooling for the first time in their own community. This will be in a temporary facility on the Bungendore primary school grounds. We wish the Principal, school team and students the best of luck in their first year and look forward to seeing the permanent school being built very soon.
