John Barilaro's Bungendore high school community survey welcomed
The Bungendore High School Action Group has welcomed the announcement of a community survey launched this week by State Member for Monaro, John Barilaro, to gain community support for the development of a local High School.
On Monday Mr Barilaro released the Community Survey and encouraged everyone to help him put a strong case forward to the NSW Minister for Education for a public high school to be built in Bungendore.
In launching the survey Mr Barilaro said, “Bungendore is a thriving community and home to a fantastic public school. As Bungendore continues to grow, so too are school enrolments in the region. As a result of this growth and recent changes to the ACT Government enrolment policy, I believe now is the time to push for a high school to be built in Bungendore.”
The Bungendore Weekly (11 July 2018) reported on the establishment of the Bungendore High School Action Group. Since then the group has received many expressions of support from the regional community, particularly from parents who currently have to bus their children to schools in the ACT, Queanbeyan or Braidwood for their high school education.
Fiona Doyle, a spokesperson for the Group, said, “we are delighted with the work John is doing to get a high school in Bungendore by 2022. It is important that we let the Government know how much our community needs this to happen. You can help and show your support by taking his two-minute survey.”
A community survey conducted in 2015 showed strong support for a local public high school and the Action Group expects a similar response to this current survey. However, nothing resulted from the strong community endorsement in the previous survey. Now the need is much greater as access to ACT secondary schools has been restricted for NSW students. Laura Fulton, a longtime resident of the Bungendore area and member of the Action Group, said “If the Bungendore region communities don’t get behind John Barilaro and give him their overwhelming support to argue the case for a high school then the idea will fizzle once again.”
Survey forms are expected to be in letterboxes in the coming weeks and the survey can also be completed online at:
All residents are urged to complete and return the survey as soon as possible to demonstrate resounding support for the proposal.
