Continue engaging on the need for a Bungendore high school

The Bungendore High School Action Group would like to thank everyone who got behind efforts to push for a dedicated high school for the wider Bungendore community. The community’s support was instrumental in getting a commitment from both the Government and the Labor opposition to build a Bungendore high school, within the next term of Government (by 2023).

In December last year, local member for Monaro and Deputy Premier, John Barilaro announced that if re-elected, the NSW Coalition Government would build a public high school in Bungendore. This announcement followed a six-month process of surveying the community, with clear evidence that families will stay in the Bungendore locality when the high school is built, rather than moving away when their children reach high school age.

In September last year approximately 60 people attended a Labor Education Forum at the Bungendore Memorial Hall to speak with the opposition Education Minister, Jihad Dib. In late October, Monaro Country Labor candidate, Bryce Wilson, together with Mr Dib made an election commitment to build a public high school in Bungendore.

There is still a lot of work required to confirm the necessary detail behind these commitments, so that they become a reality. The Action Group urges the community to continue engaging with our state member and local candidates to ensure, whichever party forms Government after the 23rd March, delivers a Bungendore high school as a key priority.

With increasingly limited options for local high school students, many families are making decisions on whether to stay local or not, based on whether a high school will be ready for their children. As a result, many of you have questions about the when, where and what type of high school is envisaged in these promises.

Next Tuesday 12th March at 7.30pm you have the opportunity to put your questions to a 'Meet the Candidates' event at the Wamboin Community Hall.
