Update on the Bungendore High School project

Many of you have been asking if we have any update on where the Bungendore High School project is at. The only things we can confirm are that the Department of Education has recently appointed a new Community Engagement Manager to the project; and at a Council Meeting this week, a motion regarding the high school was passed. The motion was for Council to ‘support, in principle and for the purposes of further consultation, the establishment of a Bungendore High School as proposed by the NSW Department of Education. The Department will undertake community consultation.’ The high school was discussed as part of a closed session of Council, so no other details are publicly available yet.

On the Department’s School Infrastructure website, the project is listed as in the ‘planning’ stage with a contact form for anyone who has any questions or would like to make a comment.

We have asked for an update on the site selection and if the school build could be considered for the NSW Government’s new fast-track assessment program. Focusing on selected construction projects, this Planning System Acceleration Program aims to boost the local NSW economy during COVID-19. It will cut red tape and fast-track assessment processes of selected locally and regionally significant development applications.

We don't know where the site selection is at, but we do know that a local high school is a significant and worthwhile investment back into our community. A community that has been through so much between the bushfires and COVID-19 and could with an economic boost. A high school in Bungendore would create jobs locally, invest money back into the region, add to our infrastructure and support our children's future within our community. How wonderful it would be if a Bungendore High School were included in the acceleration program!

When we get any more information, we will let you know.
